problem: Car wont start lights flashing and clicking?

I was trying to start my car and instead I got flashing lights off and on quickly with a clicking noise. I tried boosting the battery due to calling the dealer and asking what the problem might be but my lights were all working. Not sure it was the battery. I waited 5 to 10 min. then it started. Drove somewhere else and came back and it started right up. Need help trying to figure it out? Dont want to get stranded.
