C240 4-matic wagon. Clunking or knocking sound coming from rear when going over rough road surface or small bumps. Not noticeable at higher speeds.

Identical problem,
suspension knocks when going over bumps. car has done it since I bought it at 120000 miles.
Asked our mechanic to check the sway bar joints and sure enough, they were broken and needed to be replaced. Car rides a bit smoother now they've been fixed.
sway bar worn. replaced and all is good.
