Car runs awesome not a hiccup with 200000miles taken to dealer for all services. But smog tec tells me it's not worth fixing n I need to sell it,n check engine light was disabled somehow? I reset codes n only came up with code 420, Can't believe car is not worth fixing! Runs awesome super clean...
First the car started cutting off. then the knocking noise began
Timing tensioner broke, jumped time but did not break belt, car will turn over and the spark plugs are getting fire, and the fuel rail is getting fuel-not 45 psi but some fuel. The compression is still good but there is no fuel getting to the spark plugs-the plugs are dry if they are pulled after trying to start the car. The top cam shafts show to be in time but the bottom crankshaft not sure if it needs to be TDC or lined up with the fuel pump pulley.
it is very random. it used to only drop to zero when the temp was about 60 degrees or more, now it's happening more often at cooler temps.
MY VOLVO S40 2.4I CURRENTLY I NOTICE A RATTLING METALIC NOISE WHENEVER I STEP ON THE GAS PADEL,I ONLY HEAR THE NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS HOT AND ON SETTEN RMP, BEEN DRIVING IT FOR WEEK NOW AND NO CHECK LIGHT AND ITS DRIVES FINE,THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE FRONT SIDE PASSANGER SIDE. I ALREADY CHANGE THE TWO BELT TENSIONER AND IT DOESNT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND I HEARD IT COULD BE THE VVT PULLY. GUYS HELP THIS NOISE IS KILLING ME . THANKS
2004 s40 w/1.9L running rough. Wants to cut off at stop lights. Shaking badly. Hard to start sometimes. Had timing water pump and plugs to try to correct this issue. Didnt fix it. Check engine is showing all four p0301, 0302, 0303, 0304 codes. And, the p0171 code is showing as well. Where do I even begin to start with all the possibilities? Fuel pressure? Its petrol, not diesel. O2 sensor maybe? MAF? How can I bench test some of the sensors to eliminate culprits? It just dont want to run smooth and wants to shake and cut off at red lights.
About 2 weeks ago while driving my car just shut off. The Dash Message Read "Anti-Skid Service Required". After a few minutes a I got the car to start and drive about 20 feet and it stalled again. After trying to start it a few times, it got to the point where it wouldn't stay on at all. When taken to a mechanic he gave me these codes:
P0172, P2227, P0455 And P1719
He told me that the Air Flow sensor would keep it running. The Air Flow Sensor was replaced which the part itself costed $240. The car ran good for a little less than a week. Yesterday during a snow storm, the car stalled again with the same message. The car would not stay started and rattled a little bit. Any ideas?
No smoke, or oil leak. Just replaced TRT UF303T ignition coil. Check engine light was off for the first 100 miles and back again. Mechanic said its the turbo and very expensive to replace.
Is there a special tool needed to replace the timing belt
I am having water pooling in the drivers side rear passenger floor board

I bought a 100K miles Volvo s40 2004 and have diferent issues: Hard start ( almost 15 seconds to start), when in cool ( after nightrest, teh engine sounds no good until down revs to 0 but did not switch off next the engine keep in 300 or 400 rpm), smell oil or gas it´s hard to say, but smells something, the arrow light ( winter) start to intermitent flashing when its running ( last night when I put reverse, the trasmition box move hard and start the arrow light flashing ( intermitent), when start the air conditioned the car rev´s put down until switch off the engine ( this is consecuence of the 300-400 rpm on the odometer, i think!!). thanks for the help....
I took my 04 Volvo S40 to a Volvo expert to find out why my car's A/C would not go from off to on. He scanned the vehicle with VCT-2000 diagnostic and found code CC-007D and CCM-000A. He recommended replacing the evaporator temp sensor and the damper motor. Is this correct or do I just need to fix the A/C switch?
