1990 Toyota Corolla QuestionsRefine by vehicle
So, my car which I just put a new starter and radiator in decided it wants to have more problems and randomly decided today that it doesn't want to run properly. I went to pull out of the driveway and all of a sudden it starts shaking and sputtering almost the same sound as if your clugging along when your running out of gas..but I definitely wasn't. So just to be sure I drove down the street to the gas station...on my way there it randomly revs up, and hesitates a lot when your at a stop then go to speed up again. I filled it back to the top with gas which made no difference. This sputtering seems to be a lot worse when my air conditioning is on. it makes the whole car shake. we thought maybe a new fuel filter would fix it but I don't think it would rev up and idle fast if it wasn't getting enough gas...and the air conditioning part definitely has something else to it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
It happens when I drive it to work. The route I have to take has a lot of hills..
Recently the brake and charge light have come on and stay on. The alternator is good, the voltage reg. and ignition switch are new and all fuses are ok. I have looked for obvious shorts in the system but cannot find any. Also this problem seems to have affected the automatic choke mechanism. This car is ancient but was running quite well up until this problem suddenly occurred. Can you help at all.
The engine will turn over but it whine when doing so. Belts are turning properly. The engine just stopped running. It was running perfectly before this happened not 10 minutes before. Its getting gas I can smell it..but its not firing at all..not even a sound to try and start, just a whine from the engine itself . Please help

The car sputters at a stop, like it will cut off.
I have a hard time starting my Corolla when it has been sitting for a few hours/overnight. When I turn the key in the ignition, the starter cranks up briskly, but the engine has a hard time "catching." After 2-3 times, it will finally catch, but the car shakes and pops. When I depress the accelerator to get the car moving, it is very hesitant and does not respond as it should. The car eventually responds, a little shaky though, then runs close to normal. When stopped at lights or stop signs, the car idles very hard. The starting problem only occurs when the car has been sitting for a while. The hard idle is always present. What could the problem be? I have had the timing belt, the spark plugs, the fuel filter, and the alternator replaced recently, but the problem persists.
when i turn the key off on the ignition the engine sputters and makes a coughing sound then it shuts off
My a/c compressor won't engage, checked all fuses & replaced relay behind pass kick panel, replaced switch on panel. It will kick on and get cold if I hot wire it. HELP it gets hot in Ga.

Trying to empty fuel lines so I can replace them. If I disconnect the relay, the fuel pump should stop working, right? If not, what else could I do to accomplish this?
I've done some work on car, I replcd timing belt 3 yrs ago, and it has run great since. I had weak spark, so I replaced distributor, cap, plugs and wires. Car does not start. I have put engine to TDC on #1 prior to inserting dist into engine. Is there a TDC for intake and exhaust? i am following Haynes manual. Will I need a timing light?

REcently I was trying to use the heater in my car and the knob will not move past the middle setting. I try and push it to the heat side, but it will bounce right back to the middle. as of yesterday the top knob controling the air flow (where it is directed) is doing the same thing.... I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to take off the panel but does anyone know how big a project this is or any ideas about how to go about it? Thanks.
