heat is only working on the left side of the dash

Drove it to work just fine other than the RPM needle kept moving up and down and sometimes stayed on zero with no noticeable change in performance. When I got off work, the car wouldn't start at all, however will crank. fuel pump works, camshaft turns, so timing belt should be OK. all fuses are OK. I have had the car for 6 years but never change anything on it-spark plugs...etc.

I have no idea how I fixed it the last time (it just randomly started working again). Anyway this is the longest it's been like this and I don't know how to manually release it from the inside.
