I heard a ticking in the engine and after closely looking at it, I discovered that the bolts had broke off. So I just carefully removed them and replaced them myself. Not a big deal.

maifold bolts o noth sides are rusted and about to snap. The gasket on the LH needs to be replaced to stop exhaust leak. Valves could possibly become warped from issue

BOTH GASKETS LEAK AND BOLTS BROKEN REQUIRES LIFTING ENTIRE ENGINE AWAY MOTOR MOUNTS HUGE REPAIR BILL I HAVE SPENT OVER 3000 DOLLARS TO KEEP THIS TRUCK ON THE ROAD ALL DUE TO MANUFACTURER CAUSED PROBLEMS.

truck made a loud ticking sound when starting it up and then would only hear it when hitting the gas peddal...found out it was the manifold...found out there was two sides (driver and passenger side) and that it was going to cost me close to 300 bucks to fix! GREAT!!!!

I didn't update the year in my first post. It is actually a 2005 Dakota, not a 1997 model year.

Truck now makes a very loud ticking on Driver's side at startup in cold weather and gradually lessens during the first mile. Not a valve ticking, but louder.

haven't fixed it yet - the bolt broke off. This should be considered a recall due to the possibility of exhaust fumes entering the cab (health hazzard). One part is cast iron, and the other is aluminum - no wonder they don't expand and contract at same rate.....

I started hearing a ticking noise. took the truck to aamco and they found the bolts had rusted loose and the leak was causing the ticking. the fix is to replace the gasket and the bolts, nuts, etc.

at a little over 60,000 miles the right side manifold start to make a loud popping sound when cold. Diagnose dby dealer as broken manifold bolts. drilles out and replaced now a little over year later at 75,000 miles the left side is making the same noise adn I am sure they have broken bolt heads too.
