Car is garage kept never been in an accident, dash cracks are not curling. What could be causing this. Tried to have one crack repaired which didn't hold. Cracks are in various places, it's not one continuous crack.

Same car, garaged, and I thought when I googled this I wouldn't find anything. This is hideous and not acceptable period! The crack begins along driver side a/c vent and follows the arc of the dash then down to the radio. Then equal sized cracks on either side of the passenger airbag and another to the right of it. I will take the challenge of filing a class action lawsuit. If any one of us bought anything from a decent retail store that was defective we would be refunded or offered a replacement. This is just on a larger scale and requires more work and time. Stay close and give me some time. I'LL BE BACK with further information.
I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna with the same problem. I first noticed the cracks around the a/c vents in 2007. Since that time I have had more cracks appear and the cracks are growing in length .One of them travels from driver's side a/c vent across instrument panel and to the center a/c vent. This is a Toyota defect particular to 2004 models! The only solution is to replace the dash - very expensive. We need to keep the pressure on Toyota to acknowledge their responsibility.
known problem but Toyota will not accept it.
I also have a 2004 Toyota Solara with 75,000 miles that has been kept in the garage. Cracks started showing up after 30,000 miles. Also, my key wore out and wouldn't open the door even though I could use it to drive. I wrote to Toyota and explained that I also have a 1998 Toyota Truck that has always been outside and there are no cracks in the dash and the key still works. Asked about the materials that are used in the newer cars and if anyone else has had the key and cracking problem and was told no. Toyota paid for a new key and told me a new dash would cost $1,300.00. How many people have to report a problem before Toyota will accept it?
We noticed several hairline cracks a few days ago on our 2004 Sienna as well, including on the side (unexposed area).
The same happen to my 2004 Solora . I will be reporting to Toyota. Class Action suit.
I have a 2004 Sienna and the dashboard is cracking all over. It has been gargaged it's entire life. Very disappointed
My 2006 Avalon, garaged with 18,000 miles is all cracked too. Dealer says car is out of warranty and there's no know dash problem. Really?
I also have a 2004 sienna.Have always drove Toyota's but this is the first one where the dash is cracking. Long lines from glove compartment to instrument panels. My car is kept clean and not abused. dash is always cover'd form the elements.Very disapointed. Is there any crack filler for this problem?
Well, I think this means of petition could really press the responsibily that Toyota take care of its problem.
2007 solara conv. cracked dashboard toyota will not cover. would like to be part of the petition.
2006 Avalon Ltd, started noticing cracks at about 45000 miles after 4.5 years, Toyota saying they will cover 70% of the $1,600 about $500 to me, still sucks I may just sell the car and buy a Hyundai Genesis.... lot a car for the same money....
2004 Toyota Solara SLE.same problem...like flesh-eating dash bacteria!!! Garage kept since new. Never acknowledged or responded to by Toyota or dealer. Any ideas? CLASS ACTION???
I have a 2007 Solara SLE Convertible and I just noticed a crack in mine between the instrument panel and the radio. Oddly, my 1997 Honda Civic's dash is still in perfect condition.
I agree with you! I have a 2004 Toyota Solara and my dashboard looks like a road map! I am so angry that Toyota will not take any responsibility. I cannot even sell my car and get what I think it is worth because of how awful the entire dashboard looks.
Me,too. I have a 2006 Solara SLE convertible with 50K miles. Cracks started developing about two years ago. My radio and CD player cuts in and out - seems to lose power for about 5 seconds at a time, then the music comes on again. Really aggrevating. Another known Toytoa defect. I keep my car in pristine shape but the cracked dash makes it look like junk. If Toyota does not step up and fix their known repairs then I will not buy another one. They used to tout thier quality - seems that they have lost that edge. Too many other good manufacturers to go back to Toyota.
I too have a 2006 Toyota Solaris Convertible, and just noticed cracks all over my dash board from one side of the car to the other, and just as I was getting ready to sell my car
I have the same problem and Toyota is unwilling to help. Let's take action. Contact me clenney@comcast.net
My 2004 SLE, purchased new, has had a cracked dashboard now for over a year. Am sure it is not warranty covered at this point.
Same here. What will we do?
i have a 2004 Solara SLE it has 56,000 miles and has always been garage kept. I noticed a crack above the glove box about a month ago. Today I noticed cracks all over the dash.....top, front and sides!
VERY glad to find this site! Our '05 Solara SLE-V6 w/ 65K miles has now developed 4 cracks - all started one year ago. For Toyota, this is ethically and morally WRONG to let this go - ESPECIALLY after reading about other Toyota makes/models experiencing the SAME problem. Anyone has a web address where these complaints/concerns will be NOTICED and acted-upon by Toyota? Send it to ALL of us - please.
I have the same problem and Toyota is unwilling to help. Please contact me clenney@comcast.net Let's get something done
I have the same thing happening all over the dash of my 2006 Solara convertible with 58,000 miles. Car is in like new shape except for the terrible looking dash. Any word on a class action? If this known problem is not addressed by Toyota, I will not be buying another Toyota. Toyota quality - HA!!
I also have a 2004 Sienna and now have four cracks that appeared almost overnight this summer. I could not believe all the complaints when I googled this problem!
my '05 solara is also garaged. has about 60k miles on it. noticed hairline cracks in the dash starting a few months ago and worsening. i called toyota about getting it fixed and was told it would cost aroungg $2500. i called toyota customer care (800-331-4331) and was told that they respond to these complaints if they get enough of them. wouldn't tell me how many or how many they have already received. said the complaint gets sent to design improvement dept. and them someone magically decides to do something or do nothing. i guess the thing to do is for everyone having a problem to call in and get the complaint logged in.

Thanks for the contact info for Toyota. I have a 2006 Solara SLE I bought new with tan interior and the dash above the glove compartment is a mess. Cracks started to appear after 3-4 years. I also have a 2008 Solara SLE with the grey interior and have no signs of cracking at all. I love the cars but am very disappointed in how the tan interior and dash wore.
Some of Lexus RX330 owners, like myself, are having the same issue with the dashboards and Lexus Manufacture is refusing to fix it. It WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO START A CLASS ACTION SUIT TO FORCE THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. IT'S CLEAR THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AS THEY USED A CRAP MATERIAL TO COVER THEIR DASHBOARD. LEXUS IN KENDALL (BIGGEST LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN THE COUTRY) AND LEXUS IN NORTH MIAMI - BOTH REFUSING TO FIX IT AND WANT TO CHARGE ME 3K IN PARTS AND LABOR. MY CAR NOW IS AN UNSELLABLE CAR DUE TO THIS PROBLEM! IF ANYONE OUT THERE WANTS TO CONTACT ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE PLS SHOOT ME AN EMAIL - SOLEDASILVA@LIVE.COM
It seems like a material defect on some Toyota dsahboards. I own a 2006 Toyota Avalon and its showing similar cracks on the dash and on the air bag cover area. I report it to Toyota with no results from their part.
I have 2004 toyota 4/runner and i have cracks occurring on the right side dash just above the glue box, where the airbag is...Took it to a toyota dealership and said that i would have to replace it ($$$$$). They have not heard or seen any other vehicles with that problem. I explained to them that there is problems out there but Toyota will not look into the issue. My car is a garage kept car and the dealership saw that my car is very well kepted. What else can be done????? THis is not the owners neglect its toyota quality of the 2004 types dash boards.
I also own a 2006 Toyota Avalon - Garage kept and meticulously cleanes. Crack in the dash panel above the glove box first appeared about 2 months ago. In two weeks, it grew to span the width of the panel between the A/C duct and the center inst. panel. I was advised this would cost approx. $2400.00 in parts and labor. Can't believe a piece of vinyl costs this much to replace, especially if this problem is as widespread as it appears to be...TOYOTA SHOULD OWN UP AND ISSUE A REPAIR RECALL!!
Until we all Toyota owners get together, I am not sure they will do anything about it. I went to the dealer and I called Toyota, they don't seem to want to do something about their cracked dashboard issue.
How do we get together and force the issue with Toyota, clearly a factory defect.
I have same cracked dash on my 2007 avalon. dealerships want 1000$ to 2000$ for replacement. If your in jupiter.florida. you will see a sign on my car that says (Ask why I will would not buy another Toyota. my phone # is 561 352-(the F word).
CLASS ACTION!! There has to be a lawyer in this group or someone who has a friend who would like to make some extra $$...........This is surely and certainly a manufacturing issue with a few models and select (mostly 2004 and post) model years. An expensive vehicle and most all garage kept. It's a sure thing.
I agree 100%. My solara 2004 cracking all over. I am sure the air bag will be affected . A call to the Toyota 800 # was useless. My Toyota dealer says they will pay on a case by case basis. What is the criteria when it affects all 2004's regardless of condition and care. where is a lawyer. I guess this will be my last and worst Toyota exoerience
patrick, i agree. don't tink i'll be buying another toyota when the time comes to replace my current two. i've put a faux suede cover on it so at least i don't have to see the cracks while i'm driving.
I am thoroughly disgusted. The dealer is telling me the cost to replace the dashboard is $2600!!! Let's start a class action suit...there are enough of us!!
Wish I could help. I have a 2004 Solara and the dashboard cracks are horrible. I now have big chunks coming off.
i have the same car & yr i had a small crack now its got bigger & another one has accurd.

I read your 08/03/2013 blog re: your Lexus. We bought a 2005 Toyota Solara convertible, new in 11/2004 from "Hollywood" Toyota. We'vd seen our vehicle's dashboard deteriorate before our eyes. With 65K miles this car is kept out of the sun in a carport, and otherwise well maintained. This car is my wife's little baby she enjoys driving... however since it has lost it's showroom appearance her feelings have changed. Nonetheless, I would be very interested in working with you or a group to establish the feasibility of asserting our requests for Toyota's acknowledgment, and mitigation of this groups problem. Are you able to reply so we can compare notes? Please contact me, I believe we are local to one another at 33158 (Coral Gables)
Please let me know if you got any resolution, as I have the same problem with my 2006
please add new comments on the bottom. otherwise they are nearly impossible to find.
I have a 2004 Lexus RX330 and the entire dash board looks like a road map of cracks. The dealer said it was not under warranty and quoted a $1500 replacement fee. The cracks began around the third year of ownership. I'm scared the airbags will deploy if the dash continues to crack.
I have a 2004 Sienna with numerous cracks that started around th3 4th year of ownership. Now I'm at the part that chunks are coming off. This is a real safety issue since they could interfere with the airbag deploying properly. I found that in Australia they are having the same problem with 2004 Prados. How can Toyota get away with this?
My 2004 Sienna is also having numerous cracks around the dashboard. My brother has the same van and is also experiencing the cracking of the dashboard. Toyota will not do anything about it. This is obviously a defect which they should take care of.
I also have a 2004 toyota sienna and my dashboard cracks started to appear over a year ago and when I brought it to Toyota's attention they said it was not a defect in the car and it was because I must have neglected the car. Give me a break, I have a 1998 toyota 4runner and 2000 toyota rav4 parked and used in the same manner as my sienna and they have no cracks whatsover on them.
I have a 2004 Solara which doesn't see sunlight ever ... it goes from my garage at home to a parking garage at work... yet my dashboard looks like someone took a kife to it.... So exposure to sunlight is definitely NOT the problem. The problem is that Toyota has been cutting corners on interior quality for the past 6 or 7 years... maybe a class action lawsuit is in order...
I would tent to believe it's in the process and materials they have used to manufacture the dashboard panels. Toyota or its subcontractors must keep records of all the processes and quality records. They know what's going on. Or the company that manufacturers the dashboard does. I was in the plastics automotive manufacturing procees and know all the records that are kept. They know exactly when and where the dashboard was made. I wouldn't let up on them. Con tact your congressman, consumer affairs or anyone else you know that may help you get to the bottom of his.
i have the same car & year i thought the same as you, it looks like some one took a knife to it, i always use products because i live in florida . i was shock to see this, my husband hardley ever uses products his car is ok, the problem is toyota
I own a 2005 Toyota Avalon and the dash is cracked everywhere, from the drivers side through the passengers side. under the glove box and through the most hidden areas along the sides. I brought it back to the dealer who said, "it looks like someone slashed your dashboard!" I think there should be a recall!!!!! Toyota should add this to their list of recalls.
I have a toyota solara and the dash is cracking they said it was from sun but i thing that is bull shit i have older car than my solara and dash looks brand new i think the manufacture needs to replace them the car is not that old
my '05 solara is also garaged. has about 60k miles on it. noticed hairline cracks in the dash starting a few months ago and worsening. i called toyota about getting it fixed and was told it would cost aroungg $2500. i called toyota customer care (800-331-4331) and was told that they respond to these complaints if they get enough of them. wouldn't tell me how many or how many they have already received. said the complaint gets sent to design improvement dept. and them someone magically decides to do something or do nothing. i guess the thing to do is for everyone having a problem to call in and get the complaint logged in.
I have a '06 Solara with less than 22,000 miles on it. We keep it garaged in Naples, Florida and only drive it for 3 months a year. When we arrived in Naples this year, the dashboard was covered in cracks. We are thoroughly disgusted with the response from Toyota. We certainly have enough dissatisfied people to get action on this. Please contact me at clenney@comcast.net. Let's get something done about this!
Like you folks we are snowbirds and my 2007 Solara convertible lives in the garage in Big Pine Key. It has less than 12K miles, but can't sell it because of the cracks. My official complaint to Toyota was sent today, but from reading the blogs, I'm guessing they will do nothing. Should you join a class action, please contact me at robtgornall@yahoo.com
2005-2010 Avalon's are included on Toyota's "Warranty Enhancement Program." Contact: Toyota Customer Experience Center 1-888-270-9371 Mon.-Fri. 5AM-6PM Sat. 7AM-4PM Pacific Time Say to them, "I have not received any notification from Toyota, but I am aware that my 2008 Avalon is included in the Warranty Enhancement Program, so what is my next step? My 2004 Solara dash was replaced last week. Lots of issues with this program. Totally screwed up. My "me to" on this site was 9/16/2012. Don't procrastinate.
story sounds familiar. good luck. keep us informed.
Rastadoc, seems that you are the one that continues to check back..don't know yet but I might need your help. Are you up for it? I did what would amount to a tad of research on class action lawsuits. Seems to me that what is needed is to find the attorney's group who's specialty is "suing automakers" and it won't take much of their time to look on the net and do the numbers. Adding the complaints on various websites plus the math of those who haven't logged a complaint; as you know they know that percentage, I think some large numbers will arise. The sale figures for the 2004 Toyota Camry alone in the US was $424,803! Plus the same problem with Solara, Avalon, Sienna, 4runner and Lexus plus the other years involved and no changes made to correct it for future years. If the attorney's would run ad's on TV like you see done for bad medications, when you've been hurt in an accident, asbestos,etc...???? I wouldn't think Toyota wants another suit this soon after the last fiasco, yes? But then I don't know the law, or the stumbling blocks as of now. What I do know is that I can not afford $2500 for a new dash but if I could I wouldn't pay it because my standards are above giving more money to the guy that ripped me off in the first place. O.K. that's the end of my speech..today!
i think the problem is that too many people burn out and give up. i know i conceded and bought a dash cover. as i understand it, unless there is a safety issue involved, lawyers will be reluctant to spend their time on it. not enough of a percentage for them. toyota pretty much disgusted me with their inaction and attitude on this.
And I can understand people giving up because of the time involved. I am disability retired from the Federal Government. Have a relative who is an attorney. Although this is not his specialty, the firm he is with has a group that specializes in class action law suits, and he knows an attorney that is w/ another group who's specialty is class action. Don't know their specialties yet. So I will continue to educate myself and report back.
great
Can't wait to hear what you find out, Visiter! I am totally Anti-Toyota/Lexus. I've been searching for Kazuhiro Kobayashi's (toyota Company Pres)address in Japan, just to see if writing (yes, physically mail a letter) could possibly "spark" something about how the US companies have no concern in the "quality" field of what they produce. I know that Japanese take pride in their workmanship!
