Question: check engine light and ESC OFF light on
Question
I have had nothing but problems with this car. Starting 2 days ago ESC OFF light illuminates every so often and then shut off once engine is restarted. Today the check engine light came on and seconds later the ESC OFF light came back on. Is this a coincidence or not? Has anyone had this issue? If so, please let me know what it is. Thanks

Visitor, July 31, 2010, 10:11ReplyMine is doing the same thing....as of this morning.
I took it to Auto Zone and they did a simple diagnostic test and it read that my brake switch is not working (it turns the brake lights on and off). the part cost $16....but they didn't have it in stock. He said my husband could change it (but my husband can't even change light bulbs...lol) but he said to avoid going to the dealership because they will charge ALOT.
SO be careful....you have NO brake lights until you get it fixed.

Visitor, September 29, 2010, 13:52ReplyYes, I am having this problem too with my 2008 KIA Sorento. The KIA service department told me they have never had this much problems with any of their vehicles. This is the 4th time it has been at the KIA service department for the ESC OFF light on and Check Engine light. We have been 300 miles from home and it came on. It will not accelerate over 25 mph at first then it will slowly start accelerating but it takes maximum effort to get to at least 50 mph.

Visitor, October 14, 2010, 07:29ReplyMy 2008 Kia Rondo also has had the check engine light coming on for about 5 months now...we take it in, sometimes they find something to fix and sometimes they don't....and I use the work "fix" loosely! We lose full power and it's very annoying taking it in the dealers. Now I see it's happening to others. What can be done? I really do not want the car anymore and have tried to sell it for a lose on what I still owe. No takers!!!

Visitor, October 28, 2010, 12:17ReplyAt least I don't feel alone with this problem. My Kia Sorento started to have this problem a month ago. Somethimes in the morning I need to start the engine 3-4 times and in the evening the same rutine. I took the car to the dealear .. No brain ... Can't find the cause. But they told me to take it to one of those auto part places. That could be some problems with the sensor. This problem almost cause my life. Happen 3 times when I was in the express at 70 miles and drop the speed in seconds. 2 trucks almost clean me from the road. Its very dangerous and I heared from other Kia owners that its frequent on the 2008 models. Why the company can not fix it!!! Like Toyota and the other companies did with their mess.!!!! Be carefull its no an easy thing...Can cause you your life...

RookieHave you had your problem resolved? On my sorento the ESC OFF light came on in July of 2010, would loose power. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the sensor and the car ran fine...until this past Monday. I went out to warm the car up, after about 10 minutes I returned to the car to leave and noticed that the ESC OFF light was on as well as the check engine light. I am so thankful that this did not happen the day before as I drove 500 MILES home from Mississippi and it could have been a disaster to say the least. This morning, it did the same thing. I turned off the car and restarted, the ESC OFF light went out, but the check engine light is still on. So I will be calling the dealership today to set up an appointment for which I will have to drive 45 miles to get to....that should be interesting!

Visitor, May 13, 2011, 09:43ReplyHow do you know this? My Kia just did this AGAIN! These lights, the ESC OFF and Check Engine, will come on, go off, I loose power, turn car off, turn car on, lights off, dirve a little ways, lights on, loose power, turn car off then on, lights off, car runs fine ... then all of a sudden it won't do it for a long time, days and weeks, then it will do it again. When I call the dealership service dept. they always seem surprised and have never heard of this problem before...well, HELLO, they replaced the ESC sensor on my kia and I explained the problem to them more than once!
