Problem Description and Possible Solution
A repetitive clicking noise from behind the center area of the dash panel is usually caused by a broken stepper motor actuating arm. The actuating arm controls the direction of air flow in the climate control system. Disassembly of the center console will be required to access and change the broken arm with the updated, reinforced part.

I have the same problem . . . a clicking sound. It lasts for 2 to 3 minutes every time I start the car. My car was in dealers to have the ME Control Unit replaced - and when I picked it up, it started clicking. The dealer claims that the two are not connected. In other words, they are saying that the broken stepper motor arm isn't their fault - that it's just another coincidence.
Does anyone know if they are? I am so frustrated. It seems like one thing after another with this car.
Ac stepper motor. Air blows at face and up but ALWAYS blows at the feet regardless of where it's directed. Mercedes said it was a bad stepper motor and wants to charge me 760$! No way I'm gonna fix it myself. YouTube is awesome! 85$ part but they want 140$ and 600$ for installation. It's crazy how they make there money. Rediculous.
