What is your question?
Computer diagnostic showed no engine or powertrain issues, yet I have a huge issue with my car shifting between 1st & 2nd on acceleration. When idling in Drive, it feels like I am on a bucking bronco. When in Park or Reverse it smooths out just fine. This started after having right side axle assembly replaced & a new seal put into the tranny where the axle slides in. I am at my wits end with worry.

There is no magic computer that tells the techs what is wrong. We have scan tools that can display the trouble codes that the systems set, and it can disply the data that the computer is using to make decisions but it ultimately comes down to the technician having the experience required and taking the time to sort through it all. Intermittent issues can make this many times harder (if not impossible) without doing the testing while the problem is occurring. You will need to have this investigated by a technician who will take the time to prove what is going on.
Sometimes the computer doesn't notice a fault in the electronic systems and sub-systems. It sends and receives information and doesn't recognize a fault when the information is within the parameters of it's program. WE as Technicians will call that a drivability issue, and we have to read that information for ourselves to see if the issue is electronic or other wise. Now when you say diagnostics, are you referring to scanning for codes? That is not diagnostics, what I have mentioned is the diagnostics, Finding The Issue and Fixing It.
Yes scanning for codes. I mistook that as diagnostic but, the person above you helped me understand the difference. Thanks for verifying what he said.
Really we were typing at the same time, he just finished sooner. Good luck.
Thanks. ;-)
Who did this "diagnostic" test?
A certified shop & mechanic. Been in business many many years & quite trustworthy. It was my misunderstanding of scanning for codes & diagnosing the problem that prompted my question.
have you returned to privious mech to ask questions? get a free diag from aamco that will tell you if there is an issue with privious work
The car is going back to him today. Having it towed because it's pretty far from my house & I'm really afraid to drive it as it's all freeway. I didn't know I could do that with Aamco. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for your reply. I was under the impression the computer told everything. I am having the car towed back to the shop today. He came very highly recommended & I was pleased with doing business with them, so, I'm not worried about his expertise etc. Just worried about having to replace my car because I can't afford to.
