Dodge Journey Whine Type Noise From the Power Steering Pump

(30 reports)

A whine type noise may develop from the power steering pump. Our technicians tell us a revised pump and powertrain control module (PCM) software update are available to correct this concern. Additional, an updated power steering reservoir is available for some models.

I purchased a 2010 Dodge Journey brand new and have had nothing but problems. Not only have I had to replace all 4 tires and have a front & rear-end alignment at 20,000 miles, but now my car is making a whine type noise when I'm driving. I brought it to my local Dodge dealership and they determined that the noise was being cause by the power steering pump, but since it was still serving it's purpose the factory and/or extended warranties would not cover the replacement. Very aggervating. Not sure I will ever buy another Dodge! -
Whine noise when I start the car and when I turn the steering wheel left to right. Goes away after maybe 2-5 minutes of run time but you can still hear it slightly at idle. Dealer replaced the part (power steering pump) but the noise is still there, though not as loud. I will never buy another dodge again! -
My 2009 Dodge Journey started making a terrible whining noise. A friend of mine (works on cars) said it sounds like it's coming from the Power Steering Pump so I bought one and he replaced it only to hear the same awful whining noise so I spoke to the auto parts guy and he was also puzzled by this sound so ask if I wanted another remanufactured pump, I said no to the remanufactured one. He gave me a Brand New one, my friend put the new one on my car and the noise is gone... Whew.... I hated that noise. -
Same problem on my 2014 Journey. Hsve not brought it in yet. Wanted to look at comments here first. Not a severe noise but enough that passengers mention the noise when you start up the vehicle cold. Sounds like power steering pump not getting enough fluid. -
I have a 2014 Dodge Journey AVP that I purchased brand new in April. I have been getting a whining noise at idle, exceleration and turning left or right, the dealer already replaced the Steering Rack. The noise is still there and I will be bringing it back to the dealer. -
Sounds like its screaming when the car starts and its below freezing outside. Same sound just started today when the car is warm and I'm making a turn. -

Whining nose never got it fixed yet. -
Whiney noise when car is started. Especially loud when it's cold. Feeny Chrysler Dodge Jeep service personnel told me they all do it..Didn't know why. I read the solution to him I found on Repair Pal ..Said they had no received any recall info..I'd have to call Chrysler about it. Aked if this problem would lead to damage of the power steering system he said if it kept power steering fluid from circulating it could...but offered no solution to me...except call Dogde/Chrysler.
