Updated PCM software can help if transmission stays in second gear on Mitsubishi Raider

If the automatic transmission intermittently stays in second gear (will not shift into a higher gear), restarting the engine may fix the condition temporarily. Updated software for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) can solve this concern.

It's a 4.7L V-8. The problem happened not long after I bought the truck used 2 years ago. My mechanic did a transmission service and also said the problem was a loose connector from the TCM to the solenoid pack. He got the problem to stop and it lasted almost 18 months. It returned again about 2 weeks ago. At first, I would lose over-drive while driving and it would only stay in 3rd gear (just standard drive). It would not downshift when I came to a stop so when I was fully stopped, it would still be in 3rd gear and I was so delicate with the gas pedal so I did not burn my clutches in the auto transmission. Anyway, I realized the problem would reset after turning the truck off and restarting it. But the limp home mode would return after a little bit of driving. My mechanic said it was a loose connection and after he secured the connector, it ran flawlessly for a day or 2. Then it returned again. Some days it would go more miles than others. Well, not even a week went by and I am now in 3rd gear all the time no matter what. I can get 2nd if I manually put it there but I don't think 1st is working manually. I'm very tired of having to baby this but I am making sure not to stress my clutches for 1st and 2nd. I never smell any of the burning smells from clutches and my fluid is very clean and also filled to the appropriate level. I really had some faith in my mechanic's original findings and even once again he seems to think the connection was the issue. I do not know if he knows about flashing the computer though. Maybe this needs a re-learn or update and he did not do it. I do not know. The code he pulled last week was something pertaining to low reverse shift solenoid or something to that effect. I do not know the actual code but that's what he said.
