Problem Description and Possible Solution
Vehicles with a 6speed automatic transmission may develop one or more of the following faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate inside the transmission: Illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P0716, P0776, P0717, P0777, P2714, P2715, and/or P02723, loss of reverse gear, slipping or harsh 3rd or 5th gear shift. Removal and dis-assembly of the transmission will be required to replace the broken 35R wave plate. It is also extremely important that all debris from the failed part be cleaned from the transmission while it is disassembled in order to try and prevent future problems.
Average mileage: 95,115 (34,500–233,000)

Wave plate went and destroyed the transmission cost of repair $4000. General motors did nothing, there is no such thing as good faith with this company. There are so many problems with this transmission it should be on a recall list.Band together brothers and lets make this happen.
I can't reverse or get outcomes of 2nd gear. I'm afraid of how much this is going to cost me .
No reverse and slipping forward. Any recalls?
Taking my daughter to the doctor for a fever my car had trouble going into 3rd gear. It went into 4th gear but would never go into 5th. At the Chevy dealer shop I am being treated as if I did something to cause the wave plate to break. They say it will cost $1100 to take the transmission apart to see if what the codes revealed are true and that I will probably need a new transmission. Then that the warranty company for my extended warranty will decide if they are going to cover it. Do they think I am an idiot because I am a woman. The technician acts as though he can't tell me anything further so I am on the internet looking it up and find out that it is a common issue because the waveplate for this year and transmission is weak. Not my problem. Look out! Intelligent woman with internet access!
Bought my suv 2012 May. From day 1 at 1mile; I have had the rough jerking at 40-45 mph. Repeatedly brought it back to the dealership & was told that it was just the way the car was designed & not an engine problem. Well yesterday my transmission died. Will be contacting them but not suremy options are. Really don't have the $ for such an expensive repair - not sure what to do .
Vehicle operated fine in morning. Lost power in drive after stop. No power 1st gear, check engine light came on. No reverse gear. Cannot push vehicle in neutral, transmission locking up. Bought the vehicle as "reliable" transportation for my 22 month old twin boys.
Check engine light came on at stop light. Went to pull off and it would not go out of low gear. Reverse was gone.
Car will not shift past first. Diagnosed as 35R wave plate broken.
Warranty Expired May, 2015
September of 2015, heard bad noises coming from under the hood. Took to shop and had to replace the transfer case for $2,500.
December, 2015. While driving approximately 35 mph, my Equinox suddenly jerked and I heard rattling and clanking under the hood. It slowed down suddenly and wouldn't get out of 1st gear. Was about a mile from home and rolled into the drievway.
Was then unable to get in reverse. Had to be pushed out and the thing wouldn't move out of 1st. took it to the dealership. Transmission is shot due to broken wave plate. $2,500 again. Had to completely replace the transmission.
Never buying a GM vehicle again. Contacted GM's "Customer Care" and was simply told "it's out of warranty, there's nothing we can do."
Transmissions shouldn't fail under 100,000 miles. Ridiculous. The whole industry is a money-making racket.
Was driving fine then yesterday my gears weren't shifting automatically and I couldn't go over 20 MPH. I brought my car in today to Chevrolet and sure enough they told me two codes that popped up P0700 and P0776. I know exactly what is wrong and of course the one and only transmission guy is out sick today. Don't know how much this will cost(I bet a lot) but this is ridiculous. GM has had way too many problems with this engine and transmission. I shouldn't have to be thinking about a new car at year 5 with only 76,000 miles on it. Thanks GM...
transmission sliping 4th and 5th gear, dealer stated bad torque converter
Transmission has to be replaced at 115,000 miles. Out of warranty I'm out $4000. Have not even paid off vehicle yet
No warning of transmission problems. No shifting problems at all. Suddenly engine light comes on and there is no reverse, doing 10mph into the driveway. The Equinox will no longer shift out of 1st. The dealer says that it will be $1,200.00 just to get into the transmission to look and see what the problem is. They say this is common for this vehicle. I will tell all my friends on every social media forum I am on, what a substandard piece of junk this vehicle is.
Was coming off the exit ramp from a major highway when suddenly I was attempting to step on gas and the car was not moving - felt like it was in neutral. Revving to 4000 RPM and back down. Took it to Chevy dealer and was that no help, I was told it would cost $1,700 to just diagnose issue then parts and additional labor. Had it towed to another mechanic where it is currently getting repaired. 3rd gear and reverse failed on the transmission. Chevrolet needs to step up and take care of this problem and recall the transmissions, obviously this is a common problem and should not be happening especially on new vehicles.
Transmission needs to be rebuilt. 4000. Still owe on this car. Will never ever buy a GM again!
driving down highway at 55 mph a big loud clunk, check engine light comes on pull over and now no drive or reverse gear. towed to shop still waiting to hear from them. they are saying 3-4 weeks only 49000 miles on vehicle ,so lucky still under warranty. not happy .
Vehicle slips out of gear, especially when going to reverse at the end of a drive. Also, has issues shifting when going up a hill.
It in the shop now never had problems with it until 1/22/2016 going down the road no power lost all speed no reverse
Accelerating from a red light. When I hit about 30mph my tachometer jumped suddenly to ~7000RPM. Pulled into a nearby parking lot and found I cannot shift into reverse. Got towed to Chevy dealership, still awaiting diagnosis.
Check engine light, loss of power, high RPM with slow speeds/not shifting into higher gears (37 MPH max), and cannot move in reverse. Preliminary estimate $3K but could be more if there's more damage...never buying another GM vehicle.
