1992 Toyota Corolla. I just bought this little car for $600. 5 speed base model. I don't believe it but I've measured the mileage 4 times. I got 49.5 mpg on a trip from outside Louisville to Shannon IL outside Chicago. I held it at 55mph the whole way just to see what it could do. I drove 75-80 on the way back with about an extra 500lb load and got 43 mpg on the way back. It's getting 30 mpg in city/stop an go short runs. I can't believe it got basically 50mpg. This car runs smooth as a top. Has anyone else tried a long run 55mpg steady mpg test? I'm amazed and love these little corolla's.
I bought Sandy in Florida at 96,000 miles. She now has 190,000 and starts every day in the cold Midwest winters. I have only had minor repairs for this wonderful car and haven't had car payments since the year of 2000. The only thing I do not like about this year of car is that the door handles are plastic and break easily. I have had them replaced twice but that still isn't bad for the miles I have put on her.
I've had my 1992 for about 8 years and in that time i've had little problems with it. As far as "problems" go, i have replaced the CV boots a couple of times and the wiring for the spark plugs otherwise this has been a great car. It has 179, 000 miles on it, and has been driven across 3 statelines totaling over 4000 miles!!
