Trasmission stopped working in all gears while travelling at 40 mph. Engine ran, but each gear felt like I was in neutral. Problem was a spring which cracked and set off a chain of events which killed the pump and other key components. Mechanic said the disc type spring was of inferior quality. Tranny had to be completely rebuilt including replacement of upgraded spring.
I was driving the vehicle at about 35 miles per hour and all of the sudden The vehicle wouldn't pick up any more speed if I stepped on the accelerator. Each gear felt like I was in neutral
Will not shift into any gear
Transmission just shifts out sometime when I put it in drive it won't go and then it jumps and takes off that's when I put it in drive are reverse
Put transmission in now Neutral light still flashing.
I am an automotive technology student and have agreed to rebuild the F4A51 transmission in the Mitubishi Diamante. This tranny failed due to the problem with the defective wave spring. Unfortunately there are no recalls on this or manufacturers bulletins regarding this problem in either shopkey 5 or shopkey pro. Since the wave spring appeared to be intact and usable I had followed through with the rebuild not knowing that it required an upgraded spring and now the car shifts hard in reverse and the tranny locks up when shifting into second. This transmission is a problem child so beware student mechanics and consumers. Thanks to this site I now know what to do.
car stopped shifting into gears
When accelerating from a stop sign or red light, fails to shift in to first gear, slowly shifts to 2nd 3rd and 4th gear, sometimes shifts hard enough in to 2nd that it will spill your coffee. Pump has taken a poop a couple of times. Repeated drive, timing, power steering, AC BELTS all REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, alignment failure repeatedly. A rebuild is imminent.
Transmission froze up. No dealer in this area, so I had to go to a local transmission shop. The transmission overhaul cost $3,000. After that the gas gauge began to fail - going to full when the tank is filled then going to empty after about 15 minutes and staying there until the next gas refill - repeating the process. And then a reoccurring dead battery which no one including Sears and a local Dodge dealer can find the cause, because the alternator reads okay and the battery reads okay.
My car showed no signs before transmission went out........Had to replace, the day after I got it back with new transmission....the starter went out.
Transmission went out unexpectively, had new one put in, then starter went out now having problems with battery and starting.
I am now on my third transmission, there must be some design problem!
