The right side roof-rail airbag is designed to turn off when the right front seat is not occupied. In the event of certain types of frontal and side crashes, the right rear seat occupant may not be properly protected, increasing the risk of injury.
This should be considered a high priority recall. The airbag system may not function as expected. Please contact your General Motors dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The airbag system is programmed to turn off the right side roof-rail airbag if the front passenger seat is not occupied. As a result, a right rear seat passenger may not be protected in the event of certain frontal or side crashes. Dealers will reprogram the airbag control module to correct this concern. This recall is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2011. The General Motors recall number is 11162.
