RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The part of the braking system that makes braking effort easier is called the brake booster. There is a check valve in this booster that may stick when shutting off the engine. When you restart your engine, if this valve is sticking, your brake pedal may be hard to depress and could make stopping distances longer than usual.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; a hard brake pedal may make stopping distances longer than expected. Please contact your Mitsubishi dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
A check valve in the power brake booster may stick and cause the brake pedal to be harder than usual, usually after the vehicle has been shut off and then restarted. This may lead to longer stopping distances, which may create a safety hazard. Dealers will replace the brake booster check valve. The Mitsubishi recall number is SR-09-002. This recall began in April, 2009.
