The transmission is operated and controlled by software within an on board computer called the transmission control module. This software may be faulty and cause damage to the transmission. This may cause the transmission to do into first gear at highway speeds, or the engine may shut down.
We at RepairPal have designated this a medium priority recall, which may change to high priority if transmission shifting seems erratic. Please contact your General Motors dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The transmission management software could be faulty and may cause the transmission to shift erratically or the engine to stall at highway speeds. This could result in transmission damage and vehicle breakdown. Dealers will reprogram the transmission control module and engine control module. The GM recall number is N080218. This recall began on July 30, 2008.
