Condensation may develop in the heater case which can cause a musty odor from the heating, ventilation and AC (HVAC) system. Our technicians tell us the drain system should be checked for debris. In addition, a cleaner is available for the heater case.

Sour odor, like cheese, DISGUSTING whenever air was on. Worse when a/c was turned on. No Solution yet.

A musty aroma was evident any time the AC was turned on. The dealer applied a Aircomatic treatment and it appears to have corrected the issue. I suspect that this is something that will have to be done yearly. Obviously not a very good design on VW's part.
