The head gasket may leak oil externally. The oil will be visible around the cylinder head and block area.

Started leaking about 55K - slow oil leak onto the block and then down adj to the oil filter;
took it to a shop thinking it was a minor fitting or tube, and they told me it was a head gasket
( $2500-3000 ouch !!!!!! ) This is ridiculous for a > $40K car that has been well maintained.
There is nobody to complain to, since SAAB is now defunct and the remains owned by a Chinese company.
Called the SAAB dealer about an extended warranty or service bulletins that might cover this, and they
just laughed at me.
Would oil stop leak work, or will that destroy the rest of the engine, turbo, etc ?
How involved is re-torquing the Head Bolts ?
I have been having a mysterious oil leak for the better part of two years. Car was in getting a unrelated service on it and they noticed I was due for a oil change. After cleaning up excess oil on the seals (which had been replaced last year and were double checked) I was told it would require to be pulled. Quote was 1500 plus labor.... the advice I was given was "just make sure you keep oil in it and change oil more often..."
I have a blown head gasket, and I wanted to know how long I could drive it as is, and how much does this repair normally cost??
