Corrosion on the door ajar switch can cause the door ajar warning light and dome light to work intermittently or not at all. A new switch (and possibly a new connector) will be needed to fix the issue.

My door ajar light stays on all the time and my dome light does not work. It has been like this since it had 90,000 miles on it. I lubricated the door lock when it firs started this and it didn't fix it.
