The engine may start and stall with the security light flashing. This is commonly caused by a failed passlock sensor which is part of the ignition lock cylinder. A secondary cause could be the ignition switch itself. Worn contacts inside the ignition switch can cause voltage drop issues which can affect the passlock system. Proper diagnoses should be performed before replacing any parts.Google+

NOT STARTING and SECURITY LIGHT is problem--no problem with engine stalling
every month or so--SECURITY LIGHT comes on and stayed on for few minutes
6 months ago, 3 months ago
when key turned to start car--no sound--not start
all electrical devices work
wait---then start after 3 to 15 minutes--engine has NEVER stalled
then last week, not start, rotate through messages
3 minutes, 15 minutes later--still not start
half hour later, car started, but CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came on and stayed continuously each time engine was started
Mechanic charged retail to replace ignition lock cylinder $ 225.90, almost that much to remove and replace, plus diagnostic fee, and recoding and reprogramming fee

The vehicle will randomly shut off while driving or would not start at times without me having to either take key out and wait 5-10 minutes or disconnecting (-)battery cable for a few seconds to reset. The stalling of the engine while driving would occur every time the "SECURITY" light came on and made some clicking noise. I've read several posts in forums with people having the same problem with no solution from Chevy. I think it's unfair they have such a major issue but no recall, instead stick loyal customers with pricey repairs bills to "try" and find the problem.
