Digital display works when car is cold, but fades out after 5-10 minutes of running. On a warm or hot day it will be faded out at all times.
The dashboard display in my VW Passat faded whenever the weather was hot but I had it fixed at www.lcdautotech.com and it works great now.

My car can't sit out in the heat without the digital display disappearing. I hate this.

Fading digital display progressively worsened to the point of disappearance. $600+ instrument cluster replacement. This has been just one of many unexpected costs. Thought that I loved this car but it costs too much for me to ever buy another.

2006 Jetta TDI. Display has faded and come back regularly for several years; rather seasonal relationship with fade primarily during summer and humidity. This summer the display has pretty much blanked out entirely with only occasional reappearance; I'm hopeful I'll get it back with winter. Main problem is that the MFD is the ONLY way to read the mileage (220K was last read; fuel use would say I'm around 230K). Even the dealer can't read the mileage with electronic diagnostics because VW engineers didn't "make it so"! Called VW America and pointed out many have had this issue, so it should be declared a defect -- especially since I couldn't even sell the car without odometer reading (not that I want to sell). No help there, of course. And, also of course, Dealer wants $800 to replace. I'll live with it awhile.

Digital images fade due to heat(dealer says this is normal). Extended warranty covered replacement the first time.It has happened again around 145,000. Problem subsides when the weather cools.

MFD display started fading out after car was started. Went on for about 2 months, weather was cool. It is now working fine again, summer weather. This is one of many electrical gremlins in my 2007 Passat.
