The water pump and/or the plastic side tanks on the radiator may leak causing a loss of coolant. The engine may overheat due to coolant loss. Continued coolant loss after external leaks have been repaired could indicate a blown head gasket.

Just bought car - a week ago. didn't notice any problems with it when test drive was taken. Car is sls 1999 cadilac 4 door. Very low miles - car body/trim is in excellent condition. No warranty on car - as car is over 10 years old per auto sales place. Noticed on Sunday - car indicator - says coolant level low, so I added 1/2 gallon. Got another warning three days later ( thursday ) check coolant level - again put more coolant in. Doesnt appear to be leaking on the ground nor is there water droplets coming out the exhaust, noticed car, doesn't want to start right away. Have car scheduled to go into a trusted dealership for tests. What kind of leak is this? and how much to repair? ball park figure is ok too.
Coolant leaks yet mechanic did a pressure test and nothing was leaking. SO they replaced a hose of some sort and the whole water pump. A month later same thing. Water pump still leaking though replaced as well as coolant.
I'm Taking to Cadillac.
My conclusion don't trust anyone to work on a cadillac except a Cadillac dealer. Repair shops only bandaid the problems causing unneeded parts and labor, having to go somewhere else later and pay again.
