Known Problems

The steering wheel position sensor may fail, resulting in the service stability message being displayed.

One or more of the power window regulators (one in each door) may fail causing the window to fall into the door and not roll up.

There have been multiple reports of the CD player displaying an error. The most common solution to this condition is the refurbishment or replacement of the unit. This will also require reprogramming the unit.

Vehicles with certain V6 engines may illuminate the Check Engine Light one or more of the following codes: P0011, P0014, P0021, P0024, P0341, P0346, P0336, or P0391. Our technicians tell us that some vehicles may require a powertrain control module (PCM) software update to correct this issue. Other vehicles may have excess camshaft end play on one or both cylinder heads which will need to be corrected using special procedures outlined by GM.

Vehicles equipped with the 4.6L engine may develop excessive oil consumption. Please be advised that under optimum driving conditions, using one quart of oil every 2000 miles is acceptable. This Cadillac standard applies to vehicles with less that 50,000 miles. Our technicians tell us that if you experience excessive oil consumption it may be caused by built up on the piston rings which restricts movement, preventing them from wiping all the oil from the cylinder walls. Oil left behind is then burned during the combustion process. There is a special ring cleaning procedure which can help this situation. The GM service bulletin number is #02-06-01-009C.

The water pump and/or the plastic side tanks on the radiator may leak causing a loss of coolant. The engine may overheat due to coolant loss. Continued coolant loss after external leaks have been repaired could indicate a blown head gasket.

The trunk pull down switch may fail causing the trunk lid not to close completely. Our technicians tell us that the failed switch can be replaced without changing the complete pull down motor assembly.

The rear window defogger may stop working due to a wire terminal broken off of the rear glass. Our technicians tell us that terminal can be reattached using a special glue or silver solder.

One or more heater & AC (HVAC) air delivery and/or temperature mode door actuator may fail. This can result in incorrect air delivery or temperature. If this occurs, fault code(s) stored in the HVAC control module should be available to assist with diagnoses.

Engine vacuum leaks may develop from the various vacuum hoses causing the engine to idle incorrectly or the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Damaged vacuum lines should be replaced as necessary. Our technicians tell us that rubber vacuum hoses can be used to replace damaged plastic lines if necessary, as long as any connections are vacuum tight.

Overheating of the engine may cause the cylinder head to expand, severely straining the head bolts and damaging the threads in the engine block. This commonly results in a blown head gasket. Our technicians tell us the engine block threads must be repaired before the cylinder head is reinstalled.

The rear axle pinion seal may leak causing fluid loss and possible internal rear end damage. Replacing the faulty seal will commonly correct this concern. Some 2005-2007 models have been recalled for this issue.
