Catalytic converter failure is common and may cause a Check Engine Light to illuminate.

Driving and the check engine light came on. There was an odor inside the car then the smell of burning rubber. Took it to the dealer and determined the dealer claimed catalytic converter. I believe this problem was there but the car was in warranty at last visit so they ignored it.

This problem started about 6 months after we received the car. Have taken it to multiple Mercedes Service Centers and have been told the same thing "there is no problem, don't worry about it". Well, now that is out of warranty looks like the cost is on me for repairing it. But, "you get what you pay for"...lol.

Check Engine Light has been on since about 6 months after we bought it. We have taken it to two different Mercedes Service Centers several times and they say it is not a problem and have never done anything to rectify the problem (did however charge us several hundred dollars for this valuable information). Now it is out of warranty and I am stuck with the repair bill. Sort of makes me think the saying "you get what you pay for" is wrong.
