Buick LeSabre Problem Report
Buick LeSabre Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue
Illumination of the Check Engine Light can be caused by a loose or worn gas cap.
Service vehicle soon light on and message said check for loose gas cap. Problem solved by replacing worn and deteriorating fuel pressure harness which is attached to the fuel pressure regulator. Does not require a mechanic to do really. GM part #2450-6640. - panamax

For me, this occurred after changing the fuel level sensor. The fuel pump is held in place by a retaining ring that puts pressure on a gasket. I re-seated the gasket and bent the retaining ring tabs down with a brass punch to apply additional pressure. - Visitor
This was caused by a leak in the fuel filler pipe. New pipe sells for about $500.00, plus installation. This is an easy, inexpensive fix once you know about it. Remove old pipe, easy to remove. Block the large end and fill with water. Blow air in the small end and watch at the large end for bubbles that will appear at the flange. That's where the leak is. Mix up some JB Weld, Walmart $4.00, and apply this weld all around the flange. Make sure you put plenty of weld on and all around or you will get the leak again. After a few hours you can replace the filler pipe. Problem solved. - Visitor
