OMG, on going gas cap problem and engine light is going on. Way to expensive to pay a company to check the light and make the light go off. Really we need to buy a chip every time at $400. Any cheaper way to get this done??
Please give me ideas.......
Engine light on due to gas cap issue but we have not been able to fix it, switch cap several times, problem continues.
Check engine light came on gave a code that there was a minor emission system leak.

I had this problem for over a year. Dealer "fixed" it for two weeks and $700. After being entirely frustrated I put it up on ramps myself and took a look underneath the rear of the car by the gas tank. Sure enough a hose was unplugged, I cleaned the oring in the fitting and snapped it back together. Problem fixed. NO $$$
YOu can tighten the gas cap and it goes away--this is the 3rd gas cap we've replaced.
my i just unhooked light came on an the sensor throwing the code to get light off
Check engine light comes on and warning about 'tighten gas cap'. No fix yet. Mechanic suggested buying real GM or ACDelco gas cap
"Service engine soon" light-code '440' and 440pd' "evaporative system fault" occurs when tank reaches the half empty point usually. tighten cap erase code and go.
I repeated had the check engine light come on after I bought my truck (used w/ 16000mi). This took 8 trips to the dealer before they figured out it was a fuel line issue. The metal receiver for the gas cap wouldn't secure properly. Since it was a used car when I bought it I couldn't do the normal lemon law suit. I was able to sue for breach of contract and had GM award me money for the time & effort of 8 trips to the dealer and missed work hours.
