ESP / BAS / ABS warning lights come on. Brake lights work intermittently. Shop replace brake light switch and relay. Checked all bulbs / connections. Fixed the problem for 10 miles, then the same issue came back. Returned to shop. They had the car for 2 days. No warning lights came on and the brake lights worked fine. 10 miles from the shop, the warning lights came on again and brake lights didn't work. I replaced the brake light switch as second time, but that did not make any difference. Problem still comes and goes. Going back to shop again.

Every year or so ,without fail I need to replace to brake light switch. The Bas/Esp light goes on and will want to lock out the transmission shifter. I have owned my car for 7 years and have replaced the switch 6 times. It is not a difficult DIY repair and takes about 20 minutes to complete. The switch is $25 and the dealer will charge you about $150 for labor to install it.

Brake light indicator. replaced switch worked ok for a few days.. i have noticed that after warming up the car, then letting it cool and problem disappears for the rest of that day them, next am, whammo! same problem this feels like groundhog day! ESP and BAS light warnings accompany this odd phenom! Makes me want to brn the car!!
I have had brake light problems due to the actual bulb receptical being loose. I can wiggle it and it comes back on. Also the ESP/BAS warning lights come on then after a while they go off. I have noticed it usually happens when it has been raining and I drive on wet roads. The E320 doesn't like water at all. Especially in the gear shift column right below the cup holder (the stupidest place to put one). Have had to replace that also.

The light switch failed and the BAS, ESP and ABS lights came on. The good news is the parts from the dealer only cost $30. and the instruction are included. The total fix time is about 1 hour.

I am in the process of having my second one replaced. Shift would not move out of Park to Reverse. Called AAA for a tow and knowledgeable tow truck driver showed how to take a credit card, pop up the wood-look panel on the shifter and there is an over-ride that you can access with a straw or other slender device, and you can override the 'park' and at least get to the shop without a tow. Be careful driving, however, as your brake lights are probably not working until you get the new switch.
