Report: Automatic Transmission May Not Shift Correctly at High Mileages
Toyota Celica Problem
Model Years Affected: 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002
Drive Train Affected: Automatic Transmission
Average Mileage: 159,771 mi (128,000 mi - 187,000 mi)
The automatic transmission may not shift correctly. This can be caused by the throttle position sensor being out of adjustment or a shift solenoid needing to be replaced. Typically the transmission does not need to be completely overhauled.

doesnt shift into gear right away after you stop, then slams into gear and jerks forward

Same problem as reported by others. When attempting to accelerate the car will be slow to respond and then downshift hard with rpms surging. Problem is worse with cruise control and cruise calls for acceleration.

I made a stop and as i accelerated the car stopped amd slammed forward. Would not move in d,r, or 2 gear. Made it home in 1st. When in those gears the rpms will move but the car doesn't. I am having the transmission rebuilt. Other than switching gears more slowly or not as smooth the car seemed fine up until yhis happened.

Transmission will not shift correctly. Sometimes will not shift into reverse, drive, 2, and low. It is as if i am in neutral, the RPM's are moving but the car isn't. I have not fixed this issue as of this report.
