Abnormal Noise or Damage to AC Compressor on Jeep Compass

Problem Description and Possible Solution

A rattle type noise may be noted from the AC compressor or the compressor could be damaged due to "slugging" of the refrigerant. The compressor may require replacement to correct this concern. If the compressor is replaced an updated condenser may also be required.

Rattling noise coming from compressor area however it stops when air conditioner is turned on.
I heard a slight whirring noise & had my mechanic check it. It was either the power steering pump or a/c compressor. It turns out to be the compressor which I have to have done. The part alone is over 800 rebuilt.
a/c had a rattle in it all the time it finally just quit all of a sudden,Have not had it repaired yet because was told its very exspensive but was told the compressor shaft broke .One more thing chrysler knows about but lets the consumer absorb the problem.
There is a big hole in the compressor, and two different mechanics cannot figure out how it got there. Everything below the vehicle is intact, so it was not from hitting or running something over. So frustrating.
I ACTUALLY HAVE A 2014 COMPASS BUT IT WOULD ONLY GO UP TO 2013 AND MY AC IS REALLLLY SLUGGISH TO START
same problem---just checking on here to see if there's a recall or something--getting ready to spend 3-400 to get replaced with re-built
Had to replace the Compressor
