my galant shakes violently while i accelerate at any speed then stops when i let up off the gas. thought it may be an axle problem but changed the axles and still have the problem. could this be a problem with the transmission?

Since you already did the axles , the next thing would be worn mounts allowing excessive engine movement causing mis-alignment of the drivetrain. With someone in the car (parking brake ON) observe(with hood open-duh!) what the engine does , when they hold the brake and jab the gas pedal. Do this in forward and reverse. IF the engine lifts either way either replace 'em all , or a closer visual inspection may reveal the major culprit.
