My transmission started slipping then lost all gears in about five minutes of drive time with no warning and no unusual sounds or symptoms. I had a mechanic at a local shop pull my tranny and he had his "guy" rebuild it. A few months later I was able to pay him for the rebuild and the removal, then had another shop install it since he couldn't get to it right away. I drove the car about one hundred trouble free miles then the front wheels suddenly locked up then released three times on the way home from work. Less than a mile later I hear terrible grinding noises then lose all gears, and the car even rolls in park. The shop which did the install says it was due to a faulty rebuild. The mechanic who had it rebuilt for me says it failed due to the torque converter not being replaced, which he claims voided my rebuild warranty. Who is responsible?

Did they ask you if you wanted to replace your torque converter? If not them.
Really...Two different shops????... "And the car even rolls in park"... Well, ...it ain't the torque converter causing that!!... Needs to be inspected to find the real problem! 'Possible' axle shaft has popped out of the transaxle..Have a 'MECHANIC' take a look! Then and only then can the blame game commence!!
SO YOU HAVE 2 SHOPS POINTING THE FINGER AT EACH OTHER. WELL ITS KINDA YOUR OWN FAULT FOR MIXING THE REPAIR SHOPS GOOD LUCK
SAFETY FIRST!!!.... Do you have POSSESION of the car?? BLOCK wheels if needed , and get underneath and check axles , see which one came out of trans and/or blew apart...............
