Hi, Thanks for your response. I called my mechanic and let him know what Repair Pals response was. He said I was welcome to buy the pump at Rockauto and install it myself. He further said that he was in the business of selling parts, at a profit, which made perfect sense to me. So while I have the ability purchase the pump cheaper on the internet (as you can do with most things) I don't have the ability to install it, nor do I have the time to wait the 5-6 business days (cheapest shipping option at 9 dollars)for the part to arrive. But once again, I do appreciate your taking time to respond.

My apologies for your anguish over this matter. At the following web link https://www.fordparts.com/ you can enter your vehicle identification number and search for the correct Motorcraft fuel pump for your application. You might want to call some other auto repair shops in your area and ask them if they will install a fuel pump that you purchase yourself. The vehicle you own is made up of many parts, or components. When a mechanic takes your defective fuel pump off and installs a different one, it too belongs to you. Whether you purchase online, or the mechanic purchases the component for you, the fact remains that it will still be your fuel pump. I see no difference. The mechanic will likely give a warranty for their labor, and the parts store or manufacturer will warrant the component. Best of luck!

So it seems the answer to my question about why Repair Pals price is so low is that they expect me to source my own part then hunt around for a mechanic desperate enough for the work to take a hit on his parts margin?

Not against you, just his comment, as in my response. There is a lot who do overcharge, but there is others who find a way to help. :-)

I am very sorry to have taken all of your time. I actually thought I was asking Repair Pal a question as opposed to the community in general. In light of this realization, all of your answers make perfect sense. Let's put this to bed. Ok?
