What is canister before fuel tank called

What is your question?

Check engine light on, took to mechanic and hooked up to see what was wrong. All they told me was it was the canister at the fuel tank it's clogged up with dirt from my road.....would be over 400 to fix.....I need to know what this is called so I can order part and replace or can you take off and blow out. Would not tell me code number
