Remove the serp belt and spin the components by hand to see if you can duplicate the noise. Try to wiggle the water pump pulley to see if there is any movement, if movement, besides turning, is found on pulley, replace the water pump.

It could be the water pump. It could also be the alternator bearing, power steering pump bearing, belt tensioner, idler pulley. What kind of a noise is it, grinding, rubbing, whirring?

Also timing chain. Have a mechanic listen to it.
