What is your question?
Got my oil changed a couple hundred miles before it was due, and about 2 weeks later a digital "Change Oil" message came up on my odometer. It goes away when I hit the trip reset, but comes back every time I start the truck. How do I reset that irritating little message?

Turn the key to the run position, (do not start the engine) then press the gas pedal to the floor and release it three times within five seconds. Turn the key off and then after about ten seconds turn it on and the message should be gone.
Number 3 has the correct answer, way to go. Lol
Yeah, nobody looks at the owners manual anyway, why should they? Much easier to just ask!
RIGHT....if not it's aint legible! People really need to read the manual so I am not offering info that can be found in the glove box! That reset procedue is pretty common for GM however it is in the d..n book!!
#3 is correct EXCEPT, do not turn the key off. Wait until the change oil light flickers and goes out, then you can start the engine. I work on a lot of GM cars.
Dr. Yes but the newer ones don't say s..t. 2013 today I had to go find it before I was sure it changed.
I HAVE read the owner manual, and did what it said (pressing the reset stem on the odometer to cycle through to oil change, then press and hold until it goes away), and that oil change indicator keeps coming back. That's why I was asking.
"When all else fails, read the instructions" comes to mind on a thread like this but what is wrong with someone asking?. Today we have cars that can only be reset fully with a scan tool. You have to tell the maintanence system which spec oil you have used in order for the system to calculate the service interval correctly. On one Mercedes if you enter anything other than 229.51 it won't even reset (hint, hint). The bigger question is did the O.P. make sure to use an oil with the dexos1 label (green license) on the front of the bottle? BYW. There are many manufacturers who don't put the reset routine in the owners manual, GM does, most of the time.
Only thng wrong with asking is the answer may be incorrect. The book that came with the vehicle rarely is! If those written instructions can't be followed well...... have a nice day and let's go fix something that IS broke!
Professor G- after trying the instructions in the manual, it didn't reset. That's why I posted this question in the first place. It still isn't reset because I haven't had the chance to try the turn-the-key-press-the-gas trick yet. Cardoc- The manual has the reset instructions, but they don't work for my truck. Basically it comes down to: Yes, you should read the manual. Which I did. Follow the instructions. Which I did. Nothing changed, so I asked. Figured there was some weird little trick to it. And a lot of times, manuals don't include all of, or provide wrong, information for a specific model. Frustrating, but I thought that's what forums like this were for. I'll be trying the key/ gas pedal sequence during my lunch break.
It will work, have done hundreds, full pedal, and full off 3 times in 5 seconds. It will flash a few times and when you restart it will flash again, no worries. By the way I didn't say anything about the manual.
Holy smokes, that sequence worked! Thank you! And you're right, you said nothing about the manual, but believe me, there's nothing remotely close to that trick described in it, anyway. Thanks again.
★Youtube has a very nice video on "exactly" how this is done on this 2006 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon! Good suggestion. Every-one on this page should watch it.★ And learn something!!
Really You Tube to learn how to...... ??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5icTmYItwiE They are better off asking questions here IMO.
Is that a link to one of your training videos, no thanks!! First you have to know what you are looking for on youtube!! However:: All of this BS aint MY problem!!! YOU GO THAT ???
