Problem Description and Possible Solution
Reprogramming the transmission control module with the latest Kia transmission software may fix abnormalities in the automatic transmission and erroneous transmission-related Check Engine Light illumination. Software updates are commonly most effective on newer vehicles. Higher mileage vehicles may exhibit a similar symptom caused by a component failure. However, whenever major transmission repairs are performed the transmission software should be checked and updated as necessary.

Sometimes when reversing and brakes are applied the vehicle disengages the reverse gear even when the gas pedal is depressed the vehicle will not move backwards. I need to turn off the ignition and restart the car in park to put the vehicle back in reverse to move back further. On occasions when I happen to have reverse far enough out of the garage and braked and and reverse gear has disengaged. And I am able to drive forward. The vehicle pulls off in 3rd gear and will never go higher than 5th gear. No matter how many stops I do. The transmission never shifts to first gear. Not until the I stop the vehicle turn off the ignition and restart the car in park, will it reset and shift from first gear.
This vehicle has been in the shop more than 8 times for the same transmision issue starting around 20k miles It first started when doing a 3 point turn it would never engage reverse gear and also required the vehicle to be turned off and restarted in P to then engage R to complete the 3 point turn. This is beside the brake failure I had when the vehicle had less the 200 miles. The rear passenger side brake cylinder leaked out all the fluid and then at around 20K miles the master cylinder was replaced because the brake pedal would go to the floor. All I get from KIA is " We have not been able to duplicate the problem"
The transmission issues seem to be a common problem with these Kia Sorento's Has anyone been able to get their problem fixed or are we all still listening to the the service man saying " We have not been able to duplicate the reported problem" I sometimes think that KIA is just waiting for my 100K warranty to run out before they just happen to find the problem.
