Ford Recalls 1990 E and F Series Vehicles for Transmission Park Gear Issue

Ford has recalled certain 1990 E and F Series 4x2 vehicles equipped with an E4OD transmission and a one piece driveshaft due to an issue with the park mechanism in the transmission. Some vehicles may experience a failure to engage the park gear, which can cause the vehicle to roll if the parking brake is not set. Dealers will replace the snap ring and install a revised extension housing

Potential Number of Units Affected:
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE SNAP RING THAT LOCATES THE PARK GEAR ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION MAY FRACTURE.
WHEN THE GEAR IS PLACED IN PARK, THE PARK GEAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE, ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO ROLL FREELY IF THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT PROPERLY SET. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
INSTALL IMPROVED SNAP RING AND REVISED TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING.
SYSTEM: PARK GEAR SNAP RING.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 4 X 2 LIGHT TRUCKS AND VANS EQUIPPED WITH ONE-PIECE DRIVESHAFT AND AN E40D TRANSMISSION.
