After an event of hard braking, the airbag control module (sensing and diagnostic module, or SDM) may reset itself. If this occurs during an aggressive turning maneuver, and if a potential vehicle rollover is sensed, the roof rail airbag may inadvertently deploy. Additionally, the airbags and/or seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy during a severe crash, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will reprogram the SDM to correct this concern. The General Motors recall number is 12102.
General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning June 1, 2012. There are no symptoms related to this recall. If don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
