Exhaust Tail Pipe May Be Too Long
Exhaust & Emissions, September 7, 2011
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The exhaust tailpipe may extend past the rear bumper. A burn could result from inadvertent contact.
What Should You Do?
Volkswagen will notify owners of affected vehicles during November, 2011. If your tailpipe appears to be too long, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
A stainless steel exhaust tip installed after production may extend beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipe. It's possible for inadvertent contact to occur, which could cause a burn. Dealers will replace the stainless steel exhaust tip as necessary to correct this concern. The Volkswagen recall number is 26G8/U3.
