Engine May Stall or Fail to Start
Electrical & Lights, September 28, 2009
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
Software in one of the vehicle's computers may cause the engine not to start. In some cases the engine will start and only go a short distance before stalling. In some conditions, a crash could occur.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the software problem may occur without warning. Please contact your Volvo dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
Software for the central electronic module may not send the signal the fuel pump electronic module needs to activate the fuel pump. The driver may be able to start the engine because of residual fuel pressure, but the engine will eventually stall again. If the vehicle stalls in certain conditions, a crash could occur. Dealers will update software for the central electronic module free of charge. The recall began on September 30, 2009. The Volvo recall number is R215.
