On vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals, the brake light switch wiring my be out of position and contact the steering column u-joint. Over time as the steering wheel is turned back and fourth, the wire harness can become damaged. The damaged wire harness could cause an electrical short resulting in loss of brake light operation, engine stalling, and or a no start condition, any of which could increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected wiring, repair as necessary, and secure the harness out of harms way.The Kia recall number is SC065.
Kia will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning September 29, 2006. If you are experiencing stalling, a no start condition, loss of brake light operation, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.

CHAFED INSULATION COULD CAUSE A SHORT OF THE WIRING HARNESS RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS, ENGINE STALLING, OR AN INABILITY TO START THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
