RepairPal Expert Overview

A power steering fluid leak may develop from the area of the power steering cooler.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning May 17, 2005. If you are experiencing a power steering fluid leak, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.

The hose clamp used to secure the power steering fluid hose at the cooler may not provide sufficient clamping force, resulting in a power steering fluid leak. Loss of power steering fluid can damage the power steering pump and may result in diminished power steering assist, which could lead to a crash. Dealers will replace the power steering hose clamp to correct this concern. The Mercedes-Benz recall number is 2005 050004.
