Abnormal Noise from Manual Transmission Heat Shield

The heat insulator on the manual transmission may crack and cause an abnormal noise. Continued vehicle operation could result in the insulator falling off, posing a hazard to other vehicles.

On vehicles with a manual transmission, the heat insulator may crack, causing an abnormal noise. Continued vehicle operation can cause the insulator to come off and pose a hazard to other vehicles. Dealers will replace the heat insulator to correct this concern. This recall began during March 2004. The Mazda recall number is 1704B.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 12000

Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, THE HEAT INSULATOR MAY BE CRACKED CAUSING ABNORMAL NOISE.

Consequence: CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE CAN CAUSE THE INSULATOR TO COME OFF AND COULD POSE A HAZARD TO FOLLOWING VEHICLES.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HEAT INSULATOR. THE RECALL BEGAN MARCH 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.
