IF THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED IN THIS CONDITION, ONE OR MORE OF THE FOUR BOLTS COULD COME LOOSE, CAUSING AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE REAR AXLE AREA. IN THE EVENT THAT ALL FOUR BOLTS LOOSEN COMPLETELY, SEPARATION OF THE REAR BRAKE AND HUB ASSEMBLY FROM THE REAR AXLE CARRIER COULD OCCUR, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
The attaching bolts for one or both rear hub assemblies may not have been tightened to specification during the vehicle assembly process. One or more of the four bolts could come loose, causing an abnormal noise from the rear axle area. In the event that all four bolts loosen, the hub assembly could separate from the rear axle, which could lead to loss of vehicle control. Dealers will properly tighten the affected bolts to correct this concern.
General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning March 12, 2002. If you are experiencing a vibration, noise, or looseness from the rear wheel area, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
