The pulleys that drive the alternator, cooling fan and power steering pump as mounted on the engine may wear, causing the belt to come off. This can make steering more difficult and discharge the battery, resulting in the engine stalling.
On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the clutch may stop working unexpectedly.
In states where salt is used on the roads, there may be a delay in air bag deployment during a crash. If air bag deployment is delayed in a crash, the driver or passenger could be injured.
