Recalls

Ford has recalled certain 1996 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles that have had a fuel tank replaced as part of Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 97-17-9. An 18-gallon tank was mistakenly installed instead of 16-gallon tank. The tank also has a second valve location where a shipping plug is installed, which could leak and possibly start a fire. Dealers will replace the tank with the correct unit.

Ford has recalled certain 1996-1997 Taurus, Windstar, Mercury Sable, and Lincoln Continental vehicles for a concern with the park mechanism in the transmission. The park pawl mechanism may not engage even though the shifter indicates the vehicle is in "Park." This could cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly and cause a crash or injury. Dealers will repair the parking pawl bracket in the transaxle.

Ford has recalled certain 1996 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles for a possible defective brake system fluid level indicator lamp switch. If malfunctioning, the vehicle cannot be operated under proper code requirements. This could result in loss of braking if the switch is ignored and fluid is locked. Dealers will replace the brake system fluid level indicator lamp switch.
