An intermittent ticking noise from the valve train may be noted at times. This concern is commonly caused by one or more faulty hydraulic valve lifters. Our technicians tell us updated valve lifters are available which should correct this concern.

Loud ticking, car under warranty, took to dealer. Two valves replaced.
Ticking resumes from time to time, dealer refuses to repair the problem until the ticking is constant.

Loud ticking, car ran rough after start and when idling.

Dealer replaced 2 valves, problem continues from time to time, BMW cannot replicate the problem, will not replace until 'consistent' ticking.
