2012 Honda Civic recalls

Suspension & Steering, November 21, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The steering column is designed in such a way that during a crash, if the driver was to come into contact with the steering wheel, the steering column would partially collapse, reducing the risk of injury to the driver. During the assembly of some 2012 Civics, an incorrect steering column was installed that doesn't meet the proper safety specifications. Honda dealers will replace the steering column on the affected vehicles as necessary to correct this concern.

Drive Train, June 1, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

During vehicle assembly, the process required to properly seat the driver's side driveshaft and its retaining clip may not have been completed. As a result, the driveshaft may separate. If this occurs, the vehicle will have a loss of drive power and may roll away if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of a crash or pedestrian injury. Dealers will inspect the driver's side driveshaft and replace it as needed. The Honda recall number is S40.
